Chimene is the first painting in a series of paintings produced during 2005. This series represents the second evolution of my work since I began painting seriously in 2004. The series followed a strict, almost dogmatic approach to the structure of the painting and ended up being a series of Mandala paintings. The mandala description is an accurate one as they are a meditation on love and loss. The title Chimene comes from the character "Chimene" in the film El cid. Chimene is played by the stunning Sophia Loren and was based on the real life Jimena de Gormaz the wife of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar.

Please note this painting has some silver colour and so catches the light. The front photograph presents this more accurately.
